CORRESPONDENCE.

* PRINCESS TOTO,' To the Editor of the CHINA MAXL'

Hongkong, June 28, 1893.

S-I was pleased to see in your is of the 20th instant that the Hongkong Amateur Dramatic Club intend producing Gilbert and Olay's very amusing and clever opera Princess Toto Best Christmas, and if they only got a good chorus together, the Hongkong public have a great treat in

store for them.

Originally produced in September 1976 at the Strand Theatre, it secured only s maderate amount of success, bying played throughout in a rough burlesque vean; st that time Gilbert had not trained these ar cellent companies that now play Gilbert, and Sullivan's operas. It was revived at the Opera Comique in October 1881 under the joint management of Hollingshed and R. Barker, and the performance was far ahead of the first production, but the weak in acting; financial dificulties if Princess Toto and Prince Doro were both recoltest aright led to its withdrawal, when playing to good houers.
