nounced the Society itself. He further informs us that he was once more in touch with these persons, whoever regis they may be, or, at least with many m of them when he lauded the Society for its good work, and approved of its in- corperation and endowment. This being the case and, indeed, even if it were not the case there need not be any doubt that if Mr Whitehead once more changes his mind in regard to this Ordinance sad warmly approves of the Registrar General being member of the Po Leung Kuk Board of Direction, ke will still find himself in touch with most of the intelligent members of the community if not with all of them. To us, we confess, it does not seem to be a matter of vast importance whether. the Registrar General should be a offero a member of the Po Leung Kuk Board or not. As the Registrar Gene ral is an officer of the Government, however, we cannot see why his heing on the Board should deprivan the Government in large sermeasure of that oversight and superrisica which it was the professer object of the Bill to give the Government.In- deed, we cannot imaginesny way in which the professed object of the Bill could be batter attained, or in which Gprez moatal oversight and supervision in con nection with the working of the Society could be more directly or more com pletely exercised. Whitehead's orther argument for the exclusion of the Registrar General from the Board is equally unsubstantial.
