Uns Review, which was intended to ment the wants of many studenta of Chinese caused by the discontinuance of 'Notes and Queries on China and Japan,' has reached its Twentieth Velums. The time fincasxes those topics which are apparihost in the minds of students of the Far East and about which ovary intelligent person coa. nected, with China or Japni is desirous of acquiring trustworthy information. It i oludes many interesting Notes and original Papen on the Arts, Scionos, Ethnology, Folklore, Geography, History, Literature, Mythology Natural History, Antiquities and Social Manners and Customs, etc., etè.. of China, Japan, Mongolia, Tibet, and the Far East generally. Recently a newide. parture has been taken, and the Review now gives pors on Trade, Commerce, and Descriptiva notes of Travel by woll-known writers. It was thought that by extending the scope of the Rene in this direction, the Magazine would be made moro generally usofal.
The Review department receives special attention, and endeavours are made to prenent a carefix and concise record of Láterature on Chiu etc., and to give critiques embodying skatches of the Most recent works on such topics. Authors and Publishers are requested to forward works to Editor, China Reviews, care of China Matt Office.
The Notos and Queries are still continued and form an important means of obtaining from and difusing among students know- ledge on obscure points.
The Correspondents' column also affords farther and greater facilities for the inter- change of views and discussion of various topics
Original contributions in Chinese, Latin, or say of the Modern Languages am ro- caived. The papers are contributed by the members of the various Conular, the Tm- pecial Customs, and Hongkong Survicus, and also by the Missionary bodice amongst whom high degrees of Okinoen scholarship le asiduously eullivated. Amongst the regular contributors aro Drs. Chalmers, Eital, Bretschneider, and Hirth, Professor Legge, and Moara Balfour, Watters, Stent, Phillps, Macintyre, Great,
Jamieson,
Faber, Kopach, Parker, Playfair, Giles, Fito, and Taylor, all well-known me, indicativo of sound scholarship and thorough mastery of their subject.
