EXTRAORDINARY EVENTS.

A correspondent of Tuesday's Times writes to report an extraordinary deal at whist which scarred at the New Clab, Brighton After the cards bad been thoroughly shuffed, he says, by the the adversaries and the dealer, dealer was found to have thirteen trucaps, and each of the other throu players

dence had a complete shit, from noe Well, no doubt it one sense that was all extmordinary erant, bonuse, as the writer saya, after fifty yeats' experience of whist, Le had never known such a deal bolore, and probably, of all the aen living who Bave had afty years experience of whist, not one has avec known such a deal before without prearrangement. But though it in fan extraordinary event, it is not really a more extraordinary arent than that which happens in every dasl of whist that takes place, and this would be evident enough if only the players had the same means of identifying the specific hands dealt ont in what is hold to be an ordinary deal, which they hare in such a case as the where a complete suit is dealt to each hand. It is in ellormously unlikely event, of course, but so is any other spesific arrangement of the cards. If a man were to guess that all the trumps would be in one hand, and each of the other thred suite in Bach of the other hatids ho would be thought duft, but so he would if he were to assign any particular hands as those which the four players would receive. The chances are just as enormous against any other possible specihu arrangement as agsinet this one, sopposing the complete hand given to each player to be assigned before the deal took place. In other words, every conceivable doal; if it could be fully assigned beforehand, would be just as unlikely as the particular deal to which the Toner correspondent refers. It is only one ont of an immense number of events

any one of which is, ao far se we can tell, ope of qually unlikely with any other, but o which was occur. The only reason why it some so much more surprising than an ordinary deal, is that it is a regular arrange- ment which.acome to have resulted from in- tastion, so that it impresses itself at once on the imagination of all the players, while the equally improbable irregular arrange. ments attract no attention, simply because there are such a multitude of irregular ar- rangements hardly distinguishable from each other to the impression of ordinary players, which do not auggest design, for the extremely faw regalar arrangemente which do suggest it.-Spectator.

i giro kim steanga? If so, why feed his f. fto Missionscies, members of the Nava, so, what made him go faster? Here is a short personal statement which man, mikes. Try you can be any likeness between the two cases. He says: Up to August, 1885, I was always A strong, healthy man. All that time I began to fool tired, dull, and hasvy, with int, dixxy En. sation as if I should tamble down any minuta. I wall not imagine what was coming over me. There was a bad taste in my month, my breath was bad, and may month would often fill with an offensive alitas matter. My appetite was poor, and after eating I suffered great pain, and wind would roll all over me. I had anuch pain in the stomach, and was zek every morning, and throw ap a great deal of phlegm, I also had a pain Bu the tarmat of a knife eating me between the Blogliers and low down in the back at the kidneye. When at work I got fired in five minutes, and had to stand and rest.

I kept on with my work huwerer, for some time as best I could, for I had a wife and family depending upon we. But it was a bord and todious task, 28 even stooping made me cry out with pain. after a while I grew an weak sould scarcely-cmwi shout, and was coupelled to give up my employment. When I ventured: oat of doors I felt za dizzy that I hail frequently to stop and rest for fear of falling, and was a bad that people would thinle I was in drink. and I and often to call at a chemist's and got a draught to help me home. I tried herbs and ether medicines, and was attended by a doctor, but I got better. In this dead-and-alive way I lingered on until April, 1990, when my wife got me almanso from the druggist, and in it I read of a case of a railway guard at Manchester, who had been cared by medicine cailed Methor Solgel's Curative Sprag after the doctors hul given him up. So I wrote to him, and be re- plied that it had cured him and would do me good. Upon this I got a bottle, and after a few doses 1 folt better, and by keeping on using it I was soon all right and back at my work, and have been well ever since. When I feel any signs of stomach disorder a few doses sot me zight directly. I fool vary grateful for the bene At I have zeruire, and wish otham, who may be ilf, to know of it; as, if I had known of Mother Saigers Syrop at the outset, I would have been eared over four years' suffering, I have lived in Birkdale fifteen years, and if any one writos to me I thall he glad to reply,

It is this; The huren gains no new strength from the application of the apur. Or counts we all see that he cannot. But the pain aromes him and makes a draft on his re- Berred rous power-wille a corresponding degree of exhaustion to follow. This is always Nature's way. She gives nothing for nothing. All must be paid for. Look back at Mr Spor- rin's statement where he says: •I keep on at my work, for I had a wife and family depend ing on me. That was lile spar. It was work as worse with him as it is with most of us, Bat be had to pay for labouring when he was unable, by having to give up. work altogether, and whai the end would have been had not Seigel's Byrop come to the zerone nobody can say.
