No doubt a portion of it was due to excavations on the hill side, but as bufding has gone or at the Post for many years without injuriously: affecting the water, we see no reason why, proper precautions are taken, it should, on account of the experience tafe summer, be now absolutely stopped. Regulations with regard to the time of the year for building and the mode in which the loose earth is disposed of, should prevent mud from being washed into the reservoir in
