SHIPPING.

2-Undor this heading, in arrivals, there is an increnso on the previous row of 879 steamships and 727,855 tons; and in junka there is a decrease of 703 vessels with 44,304

tons.

-The total number of arrivala in the colony in 1886 vs 27,222 vesele and 6,394,164 tons, or at the rate of about 74.6 vessel, averaging about 932 tons cach, per dienr comprised as follows: 10.8 steamers; 0.8 sailing vessels; and 690 junks This does not include the teatle between Victo- ria and the outlying villages, or that con- ducted in stent-lamchea

4-06 the nationalities of the various vessels there is an increase of 11 Austrian, 491 British, 109 Uhineso (Europan bult), 97 Danish, 37 Ftoneh, 184 Gurman, 13 Italian 17 Norwegian, and a decreed of 57 American and 21 Spunish vusse)s.

6-Of the 4,251 European built vessels that arrived in 1986, 11 wore Amorisan, 02 Austrian, 2,982 British, 142 Chinese, 56 Danish, 38 Dutch, 123 French, 674 German 22 Norwegian, 33 épanish, and other na tionalities in smaller numbers. It will thus be observed that vessula ender the . British flag absorted 70 per cent of the whole.

Of the countries with which this en- ormon trade is conducted, that wäh Ubina and Formosa is, the greatest, lwing 24,358 reasols and 3,023,058 tons, or an increase of 271,907 tous in British bettors, an in- Grease of 108,989. taus in foreign bottoms, exploding junka, but a decrease of 12,355 tona in junks.
