We love no desire whatever that Dr Fisher et.ould be dealt with unfairly in any way. If his certificates are as good ns those of the other medical practi- tioners bere he ought to enjoy equal privileges with them. We prese that as reliable diplomas are issued in the United States as in any part of the world. Under this Ordinance, to which he objects, nl he has to do is to satisfy the Medical Board, or the Government, that he possesses cortificates showing that he has passed through a course of study aal examination as chorough and efficient as is the minimum course for inedical men at lume, and he is then entitled to all the privileges of the Ordinance and to be regarded on the same footing as any doctor in the Co- lany. It is important that a modical mann should be qualified for his profes ston in the recognised way by study and examination.. Mere medical and 736 surgical practice, for instance, is likely to produce the most wretched specimen of a doctor. There are Chinese practi- tioners in this Colony who have had more malicat and surgical practice.chon the oldest foreign doctor amongst us," yet few Europeans here would care to trust themselves to the mercy of a na tive practitioner. The only weighty objection Dr. Fisher opens to be able to go against the Medical Itegistration Ordinance is that ho does not think he would be fairly treated by the members of the proposed Medical Board, when they came to ex mine his qualifications for practising medicine and surgery. He does not plea funt his testimonials and qualifications are not up to the mark; and, if they are, and the Medical Board deals with his fairly, he knows be will stand on as good
considering his certificates, then prac tically he stands on the same ground in regard to the Ordinance ns the other medical practitioners of the Colony, Call of whom have to show that their claims to be registered are good and sufficient. If Dr. Fisher fails to convince the Governor in Goon- all that his certificates are not such as will warrant the Government in giving lim a legal status as a medical practitioner, then Dr. Fieher will be ablo to continue practising as heretofore, only his certificate will not be legal tes- timony, and he will not be able to sue for his fees- aut very common pro- ceeding among medical unea.
