carried the fag of Vice-Admiral the Earl of Clanwilliam, in command of the squadron, and on that occasion she paid the customary compliments of a junior to a senior Admiral, To-day on her arrival, being no longer a flagship, she saluted the senior British aval Officer in harbour with a Captain's

THE Alta California newspaper reports that British ship, the Macmillan, Captein Gray, has arrived at San Diego, in Cali- fomia, by a new route from Europe round the Cape of Good Hope
and
through Strait. The run from Flushing to San Diego, 21,984 miles, was made in 128 days, or at an average speed of 171 miles per day. The weather is represented to have aplondid, notwithstanding that the jouriny was made during winter in the Southern homisphere. The distance by the Cape of Good Hope is admitted to he greater
