A more detailed list of subjects generich contributions are orpecially upon invited is incorporated with each number. Latin, Original contributions in Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Por Endeavours tuguese, sro admissible. are made to present a resumé in each number of the contents of the most recent works bearing on Chinese matters. Great attention is also paid to the Review department.
Notes and Replies are classified toge ther Notes (head references being given, when furnished, to previous Notes or Queries), as are also those queries which thongb asking for information, furnish new or unpublished details concerning the mat ter in hand. It is desirable to make the Queries proper as brief and so much to the point as possible.

1. Small Parcels may be sent by Post at Book rates between any of the Post- Offices in China or Japan, as well as to Macao, Pakboi, Singapore, Penang, aud Malacca. They must not exceed the following dimensions, 2 feet long, 1 fuot broad, 1
foot deep, nor weigh more than if they bear this special endorsement, lhs. The parcele may be wholly closed PARCEL, CONTAINING NO LATTER, but any parcel may he opened by direction of the Postmaster General.
