THE CARANDINI OPERA AND BALLAD COMPANY.
The first of the wories of concerts to be given by those talented Artistes, which took place last night in St. Andrew's Hall, City Hall, proved a genuine treat to the large and appreciative audience as- embled. The programumo selected www.a very attractive one and showed s most judicious choice, all the music entrusted to the various performers being well adapted to their powers. It has not often been the good fortune of the residents of Hongkong to hear really good Ballad Singing, and the present opportunity should not be lost. The Carandini Company hate a high ro putation in Australia and obsewhere, and the concert given last evening was a convincing proof of this justness of that opinion. The following was the programme performed, by them last night :--

There was not an item in the programante which was not thoroughly enjoyable, and the encores were numerous and well re- sponded to. The further hearing of this case was resumed to-day. Mr J. J. Francis, in- structed by Mossrs Stephens and Holmes,
The defence was virtually that Miss Murray had broken her agreement and that her illness was assumed (*

The whole case was fought, of course, on the ovidence of the parties themselves, and the medical testimony, Dr. Hartigan and Dr. Van der Horek, being examined. The evidence we do not care to publish.
His Lordship reserved judgment, agree- ing, at the request of Mr Francis, to give his decision as soon as possible, haring in mind the fact that the plaintiff was being
pense.
But it must not be forgotten that Consuls cannot set without data, and unless mer- chants test the system by certificating trial consignments to the interior, the system will remain inoperative for another decade, and merchants will guntinue to wall at their own supineness.
