REUTER'S telegram which appears to-night, to the effect that a rewel called the Clyde date had put in to St Helens, Boverely damaged, has reference to the British ship of that name which left Hongkong on the 27th September last for Lendon, Captain Hatfield, master. Particulars of the disaster are not yet to hand.
As we intimated Isat night, the case of Regina o Fage at Canton has been adjourned for a few days to await the decision of Chief Justice French on the points raised with regard to jurisdiction. The Judge said, im the application for this postponement being made from the Bar, that probably he would, not havo required so long an adjournment so far as he hitself was concerned. The Counsel in the case return to Canton on Monday, when it will be known whether 4 p.m.--English Mail leaves for Ports of the case is to go further or not.

The Singapore people are far ahead of the community of this Colony in promising to adopt the Telephone Exchange system at an early date. We read that already the proposal has been on the tops only a few weeks no less than thirty subscribers. have given their names, and the necessary apparatas for the Central offices, the Tele- phonea, wire, etc., etc., have already, been ordered from England. The instrant
instrument to be used is that known as the "Gower-Bell loud-speaking Telephone," which is a com
bination of the Microphone of Professor Hughes and tho Telephone of Profesor Bell, with an important improvement by Me Gower of Paria. The volee, na trans mitted by the instrument, is so loud and distinct that it can be heard without tho lightest difficulty in the noisiest officea.
