We regret to learn that news has been re- ceived of the sudden death, at Yokohama, by Captain H. Smith, of the P. and 0. Company's service, who has been for some years in command of the Company's stea mer Malacon, trading between this part and Japan. Captain Smith was a quiet man whese long connection with this port had gained him the respect of many friends, and by his death the Company lose B most trustworthy and skilful officer.
Mr. P. L. Warren, late H. M. Acting Consul at Wenchow, is now (says the News of 15th) in Shanghai, en route to Taiwan, where he will relleva Mr, A, R. Howlett, who goes to Canton.
