An inquest was held this afternoon on the body of Lai Hing, who was killed by the falling of some houses in Cochrane Street on Saturday last. The jury comprised Mature I. N. Driscoll, J. A. Blogg and E. F. Fonseca.
Dr Wharry gave evidence as to the cause of death, which, he said, appeared to have
resulted from suffocation. The left fore arm was broken, the upper part of the chest orushed, and the back and left shoulder severely abraded.

He was seventy years of age and reduced to a skeleton. His body was placed in a recere behind the altar in the Joss-house, where it remained until Tuesday morning, when it was cremated on the plot of land in front of Chinese, among whom were a large number of women.
