Tan performance by the Tycoon Japanese Tronpa on Saturday evening at the City Hall fully realised expectations. Some of the feat porformed were really wonderful, Tora Kitobie walked, dressed and postured on a thin wire rope, without the aid of any balancing apparatus, with the greatest case atd. freedom. The same performer also exhibited some remarkable feats in top. spinning-the tops being spun and caught in his hand, made to run down a string, and perform other eccentris manoeuvres. Eva Kitchie well deserves the name of the "Little Marvel." This Hule girl went through some gymnastle and balancing manoeuvres that would astonish an accom plished and fearless amateur gymnast. May Kitchie also exhibited some wonderful bending and contortion. The house was well flled on Saturday; and the performance to-night will be under the patronage of E the Governor and Mrs Hennessy.

(L. and C. Express, Jan, 3rd.) Great hopes are entertained that the problem of a practicable route through the mountain barrier on the eastern side of Assam, which has hitherto foiled all European travellers in their endeavours to reach China from India, bas at last been solved.

We learn that a note on the Palkai route, which promises to be the outlet, has been prepared, and, together with elevations and maps, will soon be in the hands of Dr. Anderson, of the Calcutta Museum, for publication. By this route

HONGKONG RACES, 1879.

For the third consecutive year, the Races have been favoured with most enjoyable weather, at least, if the weather of to-day continues during another forty-sight hours. To-day was a very fair specimen of the glorious weather of the winter months itt Hongkong, although there has been rather too much up for the Course, which was considerably too hard for the boress, Pedestrians and others must have also found the dust rather disagreeable en route to the Course. The scene between the Clock Tower and the Happy Valley, and on the Race-. Course has been so often described, that we will dismiss it on this orension with the

He inoressed his lead casily, and coming up the Straight had distanced his adversaries by a good few yards. Nickels amused him- self at this time by pretending to whip up his charge--which, on the contrary, he was checking and turning in his saddle to hall his opponents. Scamp's rider was sọ astounded with the turn affairs had taken that he was almost losing second place, and had to whip up to secure it. Reichsfreihery- won by any number of lengths in a canter,
