Snowden's application to have his defence of the Supreme Court-in regard to the Shak-o murderer not having a solicitor as well as a barrister for his defence. published in the Government Gazette, following the publication of Sir John Smale's letter, was disallowed. Had not this obarge emanated from a member- of the Legislative Council, who is likely to be well, informed on such matters as these, we could scarcely have credited a atatement that the Acting Chief Justice has not been allowed to insert in the Government organ a communication to which he desired to give publicity for the purpose of removing an imputation, which he apparently considered had been thrown on the administration of justice here. We should hardly have thought the head of the Judiciary here would have required permission to publish documents in the Government Gazette.
