I have caused the errors. which have occurred for the last three months and for which repetitions have been asked by our customers, to be carefully noted, with the following result: There have been 501 repetitions, involving the transmission of 11,664 words, representing a money value of £3,840, or at the rate of £16,760 per ADMIN, Of these repetitions 188 were of a most trivial character, and could kava been corrected by a reference to our pub lished guide, and might be altogether avoided in future by the omission of words in commercial codes which are known to bo identical in their telegraphio symbols with other words, ::.

But out of the whole 561 repetitions for the three months, all excepting 82 (26 of which were unnecessary, being absolutely accurate) were demanded from lines beyond our Bombay terminus, and had to be traced through India, or to Singapore, China, Java, Australia, Japan, &c., at an amount of labour, actual cost and occupation of the cable to the detention of traffic, beyond anything the commercial public dream of. So serious is the evil becoming, that a remedy must be sought, and some limit imposed on the too free demand for correo- tions.

FROM a résumé des exportations de ris for the first half of the present year, published by the Saigon Chamber of Commerce, we learn that 148 foreign vessels were engaged in the rice trade at that port during the six months, com prising 130 steamers, total tonnage

Thus the total export of rice for the half year was 3,089,429 picula. The Bulletin of the Chamber, dated 25th July, states: "the rains that we have had since the despatch of our last bulletin, and also the absolute failure of the demand from Hongkong, Java,
