On Saturday last a Chinaman was found on the hill in front of the Club House in a dying state. On examination it transpired that the unfortunate man had taken a large dose of opium, and, though efforts were made to bring about his recovery, he nl timately died after lingering for a few hours in an unconscious condition. The body was claimed by his relatives, from whom it was elicited that the suicide had been out of employment for some time past, and that this had greatly proyed on his mind for several days prior to his death.

Spurious Tea Leaf.-The attention of your Committee having been called at the commencement of the present season, to the attempted introduction of spurious leat for the purpose of mixing with genuine tea from adjoining districts, they at once communi- cated with H. BM's Consul, through whose good offices the Governor of the Pro- vince was induced to issue a stringent Pro- clamation, threatening with severe punish- ment any convicted participators in theso fraudulent practices. It is to be hoped that this prompt action of the local authorities will have the desired deterrent effect.
