In another column is advertised an address from the Native Tes Guild to the Shanghai Chamber of Commerce on the subject of the one-pound allowance from the weight of oach package of tea. The Guild say it will be necessary that the subject be discussed between the native merchants and Honge; and in the next breath they say it is im- possible to arrive at any decision "for the present," because the native merchants have not arrived at Shanghai. The "hongs" will be able to form their own opinion of this, especially when they consider the concluding paragraph of the advertisement, which says, that although the prices of merchandise are subject to be raised or lowered; a law has never existed for adding or taking off of weights," and that the "settlement of all transactions has invariably been based on the weight given by the scale."
