WE.notice that the Senior Magistrate recently ordered a girl, who had been convicted of some triffing offence, to be handed over to her mistress for chastise ment. It seems that the girl had been sent by her mistress to faton" some ancestral tablets that were in prosecutor's house, and on prosecutor refusing to permit her to take them away she deliberately broke, not the tablets, but a basin. Li Asz and Wong Ashin, grass-cutters, were charged with stealing a fish from the stall of a fishmonger at the Central Market. The defendants were identified as having besa in gaol before for petty thefts. 14. days' hard labour each.

Henry Hankan, & German seaman, was charged with stealing two sovereigns two shillings and four six-pences from a serman named Henry Buch. The complainant was house. He kept the money in a box, but a seaman and was living in a boarding it was stolen therefrom. The prisoner had e similar box, the loak of which was exactly alike. The prisoner was seen to open a chert by a fellow-lodger named Hermann Meyer, and the money was afterwards discovered to have been stolen.
