Lawrie Wells, an artificer in H. M. Naval Yard, was summoned by Cheung Afan, a coolie, for an assault. The complainant stated that he was a coolle employed in the Dook-yard. He was sent on board a man- of-war to work in the engine room, Un the 7th inst., the defendant pointed out. a piece of wood and told him to pick it up. did so, but the defendant abused him and threw a hammer at him, which struck him on the eye and out The defendant said the complainant was told to lift up a blook of wood but instead of doing that he lifted tempered, the defendant struck the wood in his bands with a hammer, and unfortu nately the wood knocked round and came against the complainant's eye cutting it. The defendant seeing what he had done washed the wound and promised to pay quite satisfied, but somebody got hold of his wages until he was recovered. He left him and persuaded him to summon the. defendant. Fined 50 cents and to pay $1 amends.
