COLD DRY AIR. Of all the discoveries which have recently been made, perhaps none are so interesting and important, or at least none have done so much to create a change in domestic life in the Three Kingdoms, as the apparently simple discovery of how to produce and maintain a supply of " cold dry air.”
Tas maximum temperature at the Harbour Master's Office during the last week was 87.5 and the minimum 75.0; at the Peaks the maximum was 76.5 and the minimum 68.5. The rainfull during the week was 6.87 inch. From a table of meteorological observations taken by Dr Ayres it appears that 6.20 inches of rain fell last month, compared with 12.62 inches in the corres ponding month of 1876, and 15.82 inches in May of 1876.
