Through unforeseen circumstances some of our Coast friends were unable to put in an appearance, and their places were filled by gentlemen resident in other Treaty Ports. The team was composed of four players from Amoy, three from Shanghai, two from Swatow, one from Foochow, and one from Canton; and Messra Handley and Head woro elected Captain of their respec- tive sides. The Club, having won the toas, first went to the wickets, sanding in Messrs Handley and Taylor to the bowling of Mesars Maclver and Watson. Mr Taylor was abortly bowled by Mr MacIvor in at tempting to hit round to leg, and the latter followed up the attack by clean bowling Messra Hynes, D. C. Travers, and Handley for 3, 3 and 18 respectively. With four of their best wiskets down for dû things looked far from promising for the Club, but on Mr Walker joining Mr A. K. Travors an ex- cellent stand was made and the field kept continually on the move.
