ATTEMPT TO COMMIT PELONT.

Mak A-Tü, a chair-coolie in the employ of Dr Adame, was again brought up for tampering with the lock of the iron enfo belonging to his employer. Dr Adams stated that he lived at No. 11 Gaine Road, and the defendant was one of his chair coolies, who had been in his service for the last three months. About the 20th January last, he had his suspicions excited as to the safe, which he placed in one corner of his bed room, having been tampered with. For several days after that date, he had found some difficulty in turning the key in the Chubb's lock, but as he could not fix any one with the suspicion, he took no notice of it. On the 28th January last he had occasion to open the safe and then locked it. Nothing occurred until 9 p.m. on the 29th, when Mrs Adams had occasion to unlock It, but found she could not do so, The doctor then examined the look with a light, when it was discovered that a piece of broken iron had been left in the key-hole. Nobody in the house knew that he had made this discovery, as the house had been closed for the night, and all lights were put out. He thought it prudent not to make any stir just thon. The defendant, and his mato had ̈ike additional duty of a house-coolie, in so far that they had to clean the bod-zooms out, and they and a female servant wore the only persons who had any legitimate business in the rooms, and of course the doctor's suspicion fell on the defendant and his com rade.
