IN SUMMARY JURISDICTION. (Before Mr. Justice SNOWDEN.)
27th April, 1876.
The last few days have been very dry and hot. The want of rain is felt so seriously, that the Chinese authorities aro praying for it. For the last two or three days, the South gate of the city-called the Fire-gate-has been closed, to the great inconvenience of those desiring to avail themselves of this way of ingress and
egress. It was to be closed three days, and if no rain came, it was to be kept closed. No iudications of a shower yer.
Navigation is very difficult just now, because of the number of junks in the river. The steamers have to run into the bank frequently to avoid a cllision, and in all cases must go very slow.-N. O. D. News Correspondent, april 16, -
