1868 .. The financial statement of this Colony for the year 1868 deserves a little more -minute consideration tilian it has received. The total receipta for the year were 11:134168.19 being an increase of -30,4702.17 on 1807. The expenditure increased at nearly the same rate from 780,516.82 in 1867 to 8991,311,40 in last year-u difference of 8260,394.67, and being only $18,307.50 less than the total excess of receipte for 1868. This is an astounding jump from a condition of bankruptcy in 1866 to an absolute ple: thora of wealth (the balance on hand on December 31, 1868, being $142,794.70) in the short space of two years, especially when the fact is borne in mind that the cost of Government, in the Colony was ingrazed during last year by the sum of
