There are indeed one or two points on which the community might aid the la more effectively; the first is the most im portant, but is almost to be despaired of where Cumpradores are kept, viz., by wak ing every servant pay for his oom ticket by discrediting stories about lost tickets, and praferring old to new once; by return ing the ticket to this office, and not to the servant himself, on his discharge. One error mast be corrected, which may almost be called a "
popular delusion," namely, that written statements of character, etc., et with Servants' tickets are not preserved at this Office and submitted to intending e ployers. The few obtained are ahrays sunt ander cover and by proper messengers to
