DESPITE the vory alight attention paid in China, by either natives or foreigners, to the doings of Nepal, the energetic

Jung Balindoor is apparently quite in earnest in his resolve to make the Peking authorities either receive bis embassy with reasonable civility or auffer for their refusal to the utmost extent of his power.

What that may be it is difficult to say, but it would seem that his aggressive

ideas are rather centred upon Tibet than China, in which case it is more than pro. bable that the Chinese will persist in their present course of action towards him. We have strong reasons for be lieving that, except for the loss of prestigo. which might result from the conquest by Nepal of the country of the Grand Lama the Chinese would willingly see her no

Apropos of this subject the Friend qi Indic gives the translations of a memorial which appeared in the Peking Gazetia of the instructions which the Chinese offi last February, and which beats upon cials had received respecting the reception of the Nepalese ambassadors. The con- templuons tone in which the Mandarin speaks of the King is but littlo flat for taring to the prestige of Jung Bahadoor. It is, moreover, peculiarly invitating to such a high spirited ruler, that after twenty-one embassies hund journeyed from Katanandi to Peking in safety and honour, this humiliation should have been reserved for bis mission. We hear no- thing of this embassy in Mr Cooper's last letter." The memorial throws little light upon the matter, xuil is not worth tran scribing, as it merely details how the writer obeyed his orders in ascorting the embassy from Tibet to Szechen. Its chief value is in the indication it affords

the fact that the embassy has been de spatclical. The upshot of the matter may possess a wider interest then we or our Liver-readers can at present foresee

THE BHAMO EXPLORATION.

AN EXAMPLE TO THE CHINESE THE following extract from the Rangoon Gazette deserves not only every publicity but may well be held up as an example to the wretched paradies who occupy the higher official posts in the Chinese em. pire. One such vigorous act on the part of those at Peking would do more for foreign trade and intercourse then years of despatches. To be sure there is a difference betweei Burmah and Chips. The King of Burmalı desires the friend ship of foreigners, while the Chinese would infinitely prefer our hatred, were it not that much a feoling is liable to ba disagreeably manifested
