A meeting of the finance committee was held in the Council Chamber, the Colonial Secretary (Hon. Mr. W. T. Southorn, C.M.G.), presiding.

Item 18.: ― Public Works Extraordinary: ― New Territories, Miscellaneous: ― Archaeological excavations, $1,000.
HON. MR. J. P. BRAGA.―May I make a suggestion? If any of these finds should be of archaeological value, will the Government assist in bringing out a book on the subject?
THE CHAIRMAN.―I do not know if Government will be able to bring out a book but it will certainly consider your suggestion.
HON. MR. J. P. BRAGA.―It is only a suggestion, of course.
HON. MR. J. J. PATERSON.―Who gets the pottery when it is found. Does the Government exercise any rights at all?

THE CHAIRMAN.―If articles are found on funds provided by the Government, they will belong to the Government.
Item 19:―Treasury:―Special Expenditure. One Accounting Machine, $14,500.
HON. SIR HENRY POLLOCK.―I notice the price is much bigger than before. Is it a better machine?
THE COLONIAL TREASURER.―It is a more up-to-date model with other little gadgets on it.
Item 33:―Miscellaneous Service:―5, Geological Survey of Colony $1,500.
HON. SIR HENRY POLLOCK.―What is being done with regard to the geological survey of the Colony?
THE CHAIRMAN.―The survey is, I believe, finished and we are now waiting for Dr. Brock to write up his report and send it to us.
HON. SIR HENRY POLLOCK.―Will the report be published?
THE CHAIRMAN.―Yes, I hope so.
