The Council met today by Special Summons.

The Minutes of the last Council were read and approved.

The Governor read a Despatch from the Secretary of State, No. 15 of 13th June, transmitting a Warrant by Her Majesty The Queen, for the appointment of Lieutenant Governor Caine to be Senior Member of the Legislative Council. Colonel Caine, who was in attendance by special request, was accordingly sworn in by His Excellency, and he took his seat as Senior Member at the Council Board.

It was agreed, that the Revised Estimates of Hongkong for the Year 1856 should be formally laid on the Table at the next meeting of this Council, to be held on Tuesday next, the 18th instant, at 1 P.M. precisely.
