188. Later in the year branch clinica were opened at Aberdeen Dispensary on the south side of the Island and at Taipo and Un Long in the New Territories.
189. Two wards available at the Chueen Mary Hospital were reserved mainly for surgical cases which were transferred to other hospitals when convalescent,
190. The total attendances at the Harcourt Clinic nambered 37,658.
191. A small sample survey among young adult employed persone in the urban area was carried out. Of 1,467 examined 18 were found to be active open cases, 55 active cloved cones and 84 inactive.

192. The Нолд Konr Anti-Tuberculosis Association purchased a Mass X-Ray unit which arrived in November and was installed at the Queen Mary Hospital where it was staffed temporarily by the X-Ray department.
100. It is hoped that mors facilities will be available next year both in the way of hospital accommodation and tuberculosis clinics and that a better picture will be obtained of the extent of tuberculosis in the Colony.
IX-DENTAL CLINICS.
194. There are three government dental clinics situated at Sai Ying Pun, Harcourt Health Centre and Kowloon Hospital respectively.
195. For the greater part of the year a part-time dental service only was available.

Attendances at the three clinics totalled, government servants and familica 3,938, school children 5,624 and general out-patients 6,273.

190. The stark position (drugs and sundries) gradually improved during the year and, except for a few items in short supply, was satisfactorily maintained. The situation in regard to surgical equipment and instruments was at times desperate but was relieved to some extent by a shipment which arrived in December.
200. Hupen expressed last year for more adequate accommo- dation for the General Distributing Diapensary have unfortunately not yet materialized and as a result pharmaceutical machinery has not yet been ordered.
201. Under the Poisons and Pharmacy Ordinance 226 licences were issued for "wholesale dealers " and 161 for listed nellers : 29 pharmacists and 13 registered premises were licenced.
303. The Chief Pharmorist vinîted 110 premises for inspection.
2013. Twa ponvictions were obtained for being in unlawful possession of poisona.
XL-SOCIAL WELFARE ACTIVITIES.
204. The welfare activities of the department consisted, in general, in three types of works the feeling of destitutes, the provision of shelter with a varying amount of assistance to those in special need and a simple housing scheme designed as alternative for squatters who are turned out of their havale.

X-PHARMACEUTICS.
198. The number of institutions serviced by the Distributing Dispensarios reached the figure of 82. To obriate to a great extent the cross-harbour transport problem, and to relieve the pressure on the General Distributing Dispensary, a branch medical store and distributing dispensary were opened on the mainland and bave functioned since the midille of the year. All outstanding indents are expected to be filled during the coming year.
