145. This hospital has necomodation for 129 patients and had a daily average of 107,

147. By agreement with the Canton Authorities cases transferred to the Canton Municipal Mental Hospital, where those who have had more than 3 months residence in Hong Kong are supported by the Hong Kong Government.

148. The Montal Hospital is an old building and not in keeping with modern therapeutic ideas but as far as practicable, occupational therapy is provided and it is hoped that a new Montal Hospital will be built na noon na funds are available.

(d) Sai Ying Pun Hospital.

149. This hospital continued to be used as the infectious lisenses hospital on the Island. Normally there is accommodation for 100 beds, although this number could be increased to 150 in un emergency.

180. Seven hundred and eight patients were admitted and of these 155 died. Among the admissions were 30 cases of smallpox, 6 cases of cholera (imported) and 107 cases of cerebra- spinal meningitis (meningococcal).

151. The Sai Ying l'un Out-patients department although not associated with the hospital is in the same compound. A total of 100,300 patients attended the various clinics as shown in the table below

(e) Lai Chi Kok Hospital.

162. This serves va au infectious diseasca hospital for the Mainland. It consists of an upper and a lower portion. During the year, only the lower portion was used. This part can provide 300 beds if required. The admissions amounted to 028 with 230 deaths. Smallpox 50 vases, cerebro-apinol meningitis 134 caged, diphtheria 41 cases, and tuberculosis 147 cases, were the more cumtuon conditions met with.

(#) North Point Convaleserst Home.

168. This home consists of a number of wooden buts, and provides accommodation for upwards of 200 beds for convalescent. patients from the Queen Mary and Kowloon Hospitals. 400 patients were admitted, and 403 were discharged.

154. Tufortunately these huts are in poor structural condition and it seems unlikely that it will be considered worth- while to repair them.

(7) Felia Villa Tuberculoria Senatoriem,

155. This sanatorium consists of a block of nine converted residential houses, and is well situated. It has accommodation for 38 patients. 154 were admitted, 119 discharged and 5 died.

(k) St. John Hospital, Cheung Chau Island.

156. The Government continued to maintain this hospital, which used to be supported by funds provided by the St. John Ambulance Association and Brigade in Hong Kong. During the year, a fuller use was made of the hospital for tuberculosis patients, many of whom derived great benefit from a prolonged stay.

167. Eight thousand four hundred and forty one prisoners were admitted to the prison with a daily avenge of 1,762. these 176 were admitted direct to hospital and 347 were"passed unfit and put on half labour.
