$7. The main defects among Group A school children included defective vision, catarrhal conjunctivitis, adenitis and dental caries. Amoug pupils attending other types of schools, intestinal parasites (mostly ascariasis), anemia, adenitis, granular and catarrhol conjunctivitis, defective vision and dental corios were common conditions. Malnutrition, including avitaminosis was discovered in some instances in the latter two groups of schoola.
88. Defects found in routine examinations and also special cases referred by principals of schools were attended to at the treatment centres at Harcourt Health Centre, Kowloon Hospital Out-patient Department and Ellia Endoorie School Building. Attendances numbered 24,190. For a table of defects founil see Annex (C).
80. The optical workshop munde spectacles for 669 children.
90. Some 54,189 children were inoculated against cholera, 101,045 were vaccinated against smallpox, 15,286 received the first dose of plum precipitated toxoid, 13,707 received both firat and second doses and 42 received booster doses in the anti-lipbtheria campaign.
91. All new schools before being rogistered ure inspected an health requirements laid down for Intrine accommolation, ventilation, lighting, seats and desks, blackboards, water supply, general cleanliness, state of repair, and sumber of students allowed. All registered schools are examined at least once a year-those which are not up to standardl are examined more often.
02. During the year 1,593 inspections of school premisme were carried out. Defects found in the course of these inspections are tobulated in Annex (0). Ju all cases, recommendations for adjusting such defects were made to the school managers through the Education Authority.
93. Tegislation was under consideration in the latter part of the year to enforce rontine physical examinations of all teaching staff in registered schools and to make regulations controlling the subsequent attendance at the school of those found suffering from on infections discase, including tuberculosis.

94. There are five government social hygiene clinice

Wanchai (Ol Majima Hospital) Female.
Wanchai Male Centre (Hurcourt Health Centre).

95. The female clinic at Shaukiwan which was open 2 days a week in the early part of the year was closed on 30th April, na the medical officer was required for duty elsewhere. Cases were transferred to Wanchai and have attended well,
96. The Social Hygiene Hospital at Wauchai has 16 bads for women and 4 cots and during the year has done excellent work, 97. In-patients have also been treated at Queen Mary Hospital where 28 beds for males are available. These have been full throughout the year.
98. By Proclamatiou No. 28 of March 21st, 1946, powere were given for the compulsory treatment of venereal disease of certain classes of patients. The intention of this legislation wa to provide means of examining and treating persons believed to have caused the spread of the disease to others. Information regarding such persons is given by members of the Royal Navy, Army, Air Force and the United States Navy. Health visitors subsequently get in touch with such girla and persuade them to atten for treatment.

(vi) Nutrition,
100. At the beginning of the year the daily rise ration was 4 toels with the addition of 3.2 taels of four. On the 18th May the rice ration was increased to 4.8 tuels per day, but it was necessary to reduce the four ration at the same time to 2.4 taela per day. Du the 6th August the rice ration was again increased to 5.0 taels per day. Unfortunately there was a steady increase in price from 25 cents per catty in January to 48 rats per entty at the end of the year.
