The paper a few days following reported:

"His Excellency the Governor, Sir Matthew Nathan, entertained about eighty leading members of the Chinese Community, and the heads of the Civil Service and Cadets, at dinner on Wednesday (April 24, 1907) at Government House. Amongst the guests present were: H.E. Wu Ting Fang, Taotais Kung Sum Tsam and Sum Tung, and the Hon. Dr. Ho Kai.

"On behalf of the Chinese Community, the Hon. Dr. Ho Kai presented Sir Matthew with a beautiful blackwood screen embroidered and inscribed, also with an address and embroidered scroll."

Sir Matthew is now enjoying a well-earned retirement, and among his treasured mementos are sure to be those evidences of a community's appreciation.
