The company flourished, and its shares were quoted on the local Stock Exchange, one of the Directors being Sir Paul Chater. For some years the concern remained a limited liability company, but later was bought over by a Chinese syndicate, and became a private enterprise. Apparently it was found more convenient to operate on the other side of the harbour, and for a goodly number of years the works have been situated in the Yaumati area.
Fuller references to the old concern and its associates will be given in a further instalment.
