We find it recorded that Capt: Sanda' slipway launched the Customs cruiser "Li Chi" in March, 1878; but a new enterprise at Spring Gardens (W.B. Spratt & Co.) had obtained a big order about the same time, and launched the steamship "Kiungchow" in July that same year.

Sands launched the s.s. "Zephyr" in November, 1878, but this was his final effort; he died not long afterwards, and in September, 1879, his slips (which had been purchased by the H.K. and Whampoa Dock Co. in August, 1877) were moved over to Kowloon.

The big Cosmopolitan Dock Co. was still holding out, and in February, 1880, this concern commenced a further enterprise, opening a new dock at Shamshuipo as a rival to the Kowloon concern - but the H.K. and Whampoa Dock Co. bought these Docks at the close of 1880, and the amalgamation was practically complete.

In a concluding article some interesting extracts from contemporary reports on the Union Dock and the Aberdeen dockyard extension, will be given.
