18. Construction and cleaning of workroom, etc.

(1) The proprietor of any affected undertaking or affected industrial undertaking shall cause

(a) the floors and walls of all workrooms in which unsealed radioactive substances are used to be constructed of smooth impervious material with all interstices effectively sealed, and to be so designed as to permit of easy cleaning;

(b) all benches and tables on which unsealed radioactive substances are used to have a hard impervious surface, with all interstices effectively sealed, and to be so designed as to permit of easy cleaning;

(c) all workers exposed to or liable to be exposed to ionizing radiations to be provided with seats of a substantial pattern having smooth impervious surfaces capable of being readily cleaned.

(2) The proprietor of any affected undertaking or affected industrial undertaking shall cause all benches or tables on which unsealed radioactive substances are handled and all seats used by workers engaged in the handling thereof to be cleaned at the end of each working day or shift and the floors of any workroom in which such substances are used to be cleaned not less than once in each working day and the walls thereof not less than once in each week.

(3) Any proprietor of any affected undertaking or affected industrial undertaking who fails to comply with any of the provisions of this regulation shall be guilty of an offence and liable on conviction to a fine of $2,000. (L.N. 98 of 1970)

19. Use of luminous compounds

(1) The proprietor of any affected undertaking or affected industrial undertaking-

(a) shall cause any luminous compound whenever practicable to be applied by a wet method;

(b) shall not cause or permit the use of brushes in any process for the application of any unsealed radioactive substance without the written permission of the Authority; and

(c) shall not cause or permit luminous powder to be used in any process without the written permission of the Authority.
