Note: Under paragraph 4 of the First Schedule to the Merchant Shipping (Navigational Watch Ratings) Regulations a rating must have taken turns at the wheel in steering the ship (other than under instruction) for not less than 10 hours in order to be qualified as a Navigational Watch Rating.
