Certain general powers of the court.
691. The court may, if it thinks it expedient for the interests of justice, postpone or adjourn the trial or hearing of any cause, matter, proceeding, or application for such time and on such terms, if any, as it may think just.
692. Where any immovable or movable property forms the subject of any proceedings in the court, and the court is satisfied that the same will be more than sufficient to answer all the claims thereon which ought to be provided for in such proceedings, the court may, at any time after the commencement of the proceedings, allow to the parties interested therein, or to any one or more of them, the whole or a part of the annual income of the immovable property, or a part of the movable property, or the whole or a part of the income thereof, up to such time as the court may direct.

Summary application in certain case.
694. All proceedings in cases within section 504 of the Merchant Shipping Act, 1894, shall be by summary application to the court and by way of motion supported by affidavit; and the court shall, if it thinks fit, by rule or order, give 57 & 58 Vict. such relief as by the said section any such competent court as is mentioned in the Act has power to give.

695. Non-compliance with any of the provisions of this Code, or with any rule of practice for the time being in force, shall not render any proceeding void unless the court so directs, but such proceeding may be set aside either wholly or in part as irregular, or amended, or otherwise dealt with in such manner and on such terms as the court may think fit.
696. No application to set aside any proceeding for irregularity shall be allowed unless made within a reasonable time, nor if the party applying has taken any fresh step after knowledge of the irregularity.
