ORDINANCE No. 1 OF 1889.
AN ORDINANCE to consolidate the Law relating to Chinese Passenger Ships and the Conveyance of Chinese Emigrants.
[18th January, 1889.]
BE it enacted by the Governor of Hongkong, with the advice and consent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows :-
Preliminary Provisions.
A. D. 1889. Ordinance No. 1 of 1889, with Ordinances No. 25 of 1889, No. 22 of 1890, and No. 37 of 1901 incorporated.
1. This Ordinance may be cited as the Chinese Emigration Ordinance, 1889.
2. In this Ordinance
"Chinese Passenger Ship" includes every ship carrying from any port in Hongkong, and every British ship carrying from any port in China, or within one hundred miles of the coast thereof, more than twenty passengers being natives of Asia :
"Fittings" include any article capable of being used as part of the tackle, apparel, furniture, or equipment of a ship :
"Prohibited fittings" mean any fittings prohibited by this Ordinance or by a Proclamation of the Governor :
"Emigration Officer" includes any person deputed or authorized by the Emigration Officer to execute any power or perform any duty vested in or imposed upon him by this Ordinance :
