202. Families of 28 serving members and pensioners of the Rank and File who died during the year were provided with grants to cover funeral expenses. The widows of 15 Police officers each received a death gratuity of $3,000 and a similar sum was given to the parents of one unmarried officer who died during the year. Funeral expenses for two officers who were killed whilst on duty were submitted to Government for payment. 11 officers received hospital allowance of $5 per day to help defray the expenses incurred by members of their families visiting them in hospital.

EDUCATION

203. There are seven police primary schools providing education for 1,908 police children.

204. The Police Children's Education Trust, which was established in 1967, paid a total of 358 bursaries to children of police rank and file in secondary school for 1968-69. Of this number, 137 bursaries were newly awarded to students entering Form I in September, 1968. The Management Committee of this Trust also awarded grants to 26 police children in university.

205. The Police Education and Welfare Trust also awarded grants to assist in education expenses for three children of police officers for 1968-69. These are special cases considered on their individual merits. Grants for miscellaneous expenses were given to four children of Police Inspectors at the University. In addition, this Trust Fund supplied nine movie projectors and 58 television sets for police stations and formations throughout the Colony.

206. The Police Pakistani Primary School at Fanling continued to provide education for the children of Pakistani Rank and File stationed in the New Territories. Since opening in 1965 the school has operated successfully, and at 31st March, 1969 had 52 pupils. The two Police evening schools, at Arsenal Street and Cheung Sha Wan, continued to provide post-primary education free of charge to children of the Rank and File who did not attend day secondary schools. These two schools had a total enrolment of 166 students. All expenses were paid by the Police Children's Education Trust. In the academic year 1968-69, three police children were awarded scholarships at the Aberdeen Technical School.

207. Picnics for children in police schools were held during the summer holidays and again proved very successful. Costs were met
