164. A total of 5,867 vehicles were called in for inspection because they were believed to be defective or failed to comply with the Construc- tion and Use Regulations made under the Road Traffic Ordinance.

OTHER SPECIALIZED UNITS
MARINE DISTRICT
165. Marine District police the waters of Hong Kong and the outlying islands. An Assistant Commissioner of Police is in command of the District, for which the establishment for 1968-69 was 1,112. The District has two Divisions:
(a) Harbour and Islands Division
There are four sub-divisions: Harbour Police Station which includes the harbour and Green Island, Cheung Chau Police Station with a Police post on Lamma Island, Tai O Police Station on Lantau Island and Mui Wo on Lantau with a Police post at Shek Pik and a Police post on Peng Chau Island.
(b) Sectors Division
This division operates an outer screen of the Colony waters by patrol craft. It maintains operational bases at Tsim Bei Tsui (Deep Bay), Tai Lam Chung (Castle Peak), Aberdeen and Tai Po Kau.
Marine Police Headquarters
166. At Marine Police Headquarters there is an administrative branch co-ordinating all Marine activities, a training branch organizing in-service training, and the District Control Room, which is the com- munications centre of the District.
C.I.D./Marine
167. C.I.D./Marine are responsible for the investigation of criminal activity within the District and in combating illegal immigration into the Colony.
