(e) Document Examination
There were 1,282 handwritten papers submitted to the Docu- ment Examination Section for study, from which identifications were made in 48 cases. From the 231 typewritten letters also examined, 11 identifications were made.
Interpol Sub-Bureau
136. The Director of Criminal Investigation and one other senior C.I.D. officer attended the 37th General Assembly of Interpol held at Teheran, Iran in October 1968. Close liaison continues to be main- tained with all member countries on international crime and criminals, and an increasing number of enquiries and investigations were carried out on their behalf.
Vetting Section
137. There were 2,055 investigations made into the character and background of applicants to join the Police Force.
Deportation and Police Supervision
138. During the year no persons appeared before the Deportation and Detention Advisory Tribunal established under the Emergency (Deportation and Detention) Regulations and no persons were recom- mended for deportation. A total of 18 aliens were deported.
139. There were 204 new Police Supervision Orders issued during the year, an increase of 44 compared with the previous year. This brings to 11,247 the total number of Orders issued since 1956 when the system was first introduced. At present there are a total of 728 Supervisees. The Police Supervision Section maintains contacts with voluntary agencies interested in the discharge prisoners and at the end of the year six Supervisees were under the care of the Hong Kong Discharged Prisoners Aid Society.
Drug Disposal Unit
140. The Drug Disposal Unit destroyed 15,540 items compared with 8,759 the previous year. This included 1,616.23 kilos of opium, 28.5
