POLICE TRAINING SCHOOL

Establishment

64. The Hong Kong Police Training School, is situated at Wong Chuk Hang near Aberdeen. The School is commanded by a Senior Superintendent, assisted by a Deputy Commandant and a Staff Officer both of whom are Superintendents. The establishment of the School comprises one Chief Inspector, seven Senior Inspectors, 34 Inspectors, 40 non-commissioned officers and 23 constables who are engaged on instruction, recruitment and administration of the School. The civilian establishment involved in training comprises two Force Training Officers, one Physical Training Instructor and four English Language Teachers.

Training

65. During training all Ranks complete a 26 week instructional course. The syllabus includes instruction on the principles of law, evidence, court procedure, drill and musketry, public relations, civics, physical training, self-defence, life saving and first aid. The course is designed not only to equip the recruits for police duties but also to broaden their general outlook, develop leadership qualities and fit them for responsibility.

66. All recruits are encouraged to develop a

develop a sense of social responsibility and during the year regular visits were made to welfare organizations. At Christmas a large group from a Rehabilitation Centre was entertained at the Training School and at Lunar New Year trainees took gifts and food parcels to a Home for the Aged.

67. The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Collection Team paid regular visits to the School, and during the year 612 pints of blood were donated by trainees and staff.

68. The Training School played a major role in encouraging recruit- ment and over 2,000 students from 49 schools were given conducted tours of the School.
