OTHER SPECIALIZED UNITS

MARINE DISTRICT

The Marine Police are responsible for policing the waters of Hong Kong including the Harbour and the outlying islands. In command is an Assistant Commissioner of Police with a Senior Superintendent of Police as second in command. The establishment of Marine Police District for the year 1967-68 was 1,027.

149. This District is divided into four main formations:

(a) Harbour and Island Division

This includes the Marine Harbour Police Station which is responsible for policing the Harbour and for the administration of the Green Island Police Post. It also includes sub-divisional stations at Cheung Chau, Mui Wo and Tai O and Police Posts at Lamma Island, Peng Chau Island and at Shek Pik on Lantau Island.

(b) Marine Sectors Division

This Division is responsible for policing the waters of Hong Kong outside the Harbour limits. It is responsible for the administration and operation of all outer screen patrol craft and of the operational bases at Tsim Bei Tsui (Deep Bay), Tai Lam Chung (Castle Peak), Aberdeen and Tai Po Kau.

Administration and Training Section

This formation which basically comprises Marine Police Head- quarters co-ordinates all marine activities, and organizes in- service training for all aspects of marine police work and includes the District Control Room, which is the Communications Centre of the District.

(d) C.I.D. Marine

This is responsible for investigating criminal activity within the District and for combating illegal immigration into the Colony.

150. There are forty-one vessels in the Marine Police Fleet together with four launches on loan from the Commerce and Industry Department and two from the Marine Department making a total of forty-seven.
