114. The post-dated cheque problem eased slightly, and 100 reports involving two and a half million dollars were investigated.
115. The most notable convictions concerned counterfeit Money Orders brought into the Colony by air by a Philippine woman and the counterfeiting of Hong Kong one dollar coins by a local forger. Thirteen persons were convicted for possession of 3,473 infringing copies of gramophone records; and about 20,000 gramophone records were seized in the course of the year.
116. The Commercial Crime Office co-operates closely with overseas Police Forces and Law enforcement agencies, and during the year assistance was given to Officers from the U.S.A., Philippines, Japan and the United Kingdom who came to Hong Kong on enquiries.
SPECIAL INVESTIGATION OFFICE
117. The team of police officers investigating the failure of the Canton Trust Bank was placed under the separate command of a Gazetted Officer. It continued to work on this matter throughout the year except for the period of the disturbances.
GENERAL INVESTIGATION OFFICE
118. The General Investigation Office deals in particular with in- fringements of Ordinances administered by various Government Depart- ments. These breaches of the law are usually concerned with the falsification of statutory documents, false declarations and failure to meet registration requirements. In cases of vice where protracted enquiries are necessary investigations are conducted by this office.
