RECRUITING AND TRAINING

Officers

RECRUITMENT

56. During the year 35 overseas and 43 local officers were recruited; 52 overseas and 74 local officers passed out from the Training School and 22 overseas and 22 local officers were still under training at the end of the year.

57. Two Women Probationary Inspectors were recruited and five passed out from the Training School during the year.

Constables

58. A recruiting drive was maintained throughout the year at the regular recruiting stations.

59. During the year 10,464 applicants to join the Force as con- stables were interviewed and tested. Of this number only 708 were accepted as recruits. 11 former members of the Force were re-enlisted, and 138 who had applied to join in the previous year were also accepted. Total enlistments for the year amounted therefore to 857. There were 303 applications under consideration at 31st March, 1968.

60. 707 recruit constables completed their training during the year and 260 were still under training on 31st March, 1968.

Women Constables

61. Out of 628 applicants 62 were accepted as recruits during the year, and 13 who had applied during the previous year were also accepted. Total enlistments for the year amounted therefore to 75. There were 40 applicants under consideration at the end of the year.

62. 40 women constables completed their training during the year and passed out from the Police Training School. There were 40 still under training on 31st March, 1968.

Launch Mechanics

63. Of the 38 applicants for Launch Mechanics made during the year four were accepted. One who had applied in the previous year was also taken on the strength. All five enlisted completed their training during the year and passed out from the Training School.
