The P.T.C. course consists of:
(a) a two week cadre course attended by the Company Commander,
Inspectors and N.C.O.s; and
(b) an eight week course during which the officers and N.C.O.s instruct the Constables, the whole being under the guidance of the permanent staff.
82. During the year, 15 complete companies, comprising a total of 15 Gazetted officers, 91 Inspectorate officers, 240 N.C.O.s and 1,545 P.C.s completed a training course at the Police Training Contingent. At the end of the year three companies and one cadre course comprising a total of four Gazetted officers, 28 Inspectorate officers, 64 N.C.O.s and 319 P.C.s were under training.
83. The Force training programme is designed to allow for all newly appointed Inspectorate officers to attend a course during their proba- tionary period. There are however a number of more senior Inspectorate officers who have not, and efforts are now being made to provide them with such training. During the year, 16 additional senior Inspectorate officers received training at the cadre course level.
Further, a special cadre course designed for the rank of Senior Inspector was organized and successfully held in February, 1967 when 23 Senior Inspector and Inspectorate officers attended. Similarly, 60 Auxiliary Police Inspectorate officers were also students at regular cadre courses held throughout the year.
84. Since 3rd January, 1967, a Senior Inspector has been attached to each company as second in command, to receive training in internal security duties at a higher level. During the year one Senior Inspector completed a full Company course.
85. Both Auxiliary Police Emergency Units (Hong Kong Island and Kowloon) completed their annual camp at the Contingent during January and February 1967. The main emphasis of the training was again on Platoon riot drill and Platoon and Company riot tactics.
86. The Revised Emergency Manual, the Force book of reference for internal security duties, was printed and issued during the year to every officer of the rank of Inspector and above.
