tennis. In addition boxing, judo, cricket, lawn bowls, rugby, tennis and squash all have a keen following. Representative teams participat- ing in the various Colony Leagues again did well.
233. The annual Police Athletic Sports were held on the afternoon of Saturday, 12th February, 1966, at Police Ground, Boundary Street. This year it was regarded as a families day and was fully supported by all ranks and their families.
234. The Dowman Road Race was held on the morning of 13th March, 1966, in the New Territories from Sha Tau Kok to Fanling Depot. The annual Swimming Gala held on 16th October, 1965, at Victoria Swimming Pool also proved to be very successful.
235. The annual Inter-Port football match between Macau Police and Hong Kong Police was held on 9th March, 1966, at Boundary Street. The Hong Kong Police were victors by 3 goals to 2.
POLICE RECREATION CLUB
236. This Club continues to promote sports and recreational func- tions such as lawn bowls, tennis and billiards. It is also the home ground for Force cricket teams. Membership is open to all members of the regular and Auxiliary Forces of the rank of Inspector and above. Monthly dances and other social activities have been held throughout the year. The sporting facilities have been fully used and the Club is in general well supported.

SOCIETIES
237. Under the Societies Ordinance the Commissioner of Police is the Registrar of Societies. On 31st March, 1966 there were 1,443 regis- tered societies and 186 societies exempted from registration.
238. During the year, 97 new societies were registered and 20 societies were granted exemption. 1 society changed its status by registering as a Trade Union; 13 societies changed their status by registering as com- panies; and 9 societies were dissolved. 32 applications were under consideration on 31st March, 1966.
