with a Senior Superintendent of Police as his second in command. It is divided into four main divisions by function. These are: Criminal Investigation Department; Harbour & Islands; Sectors; and Administra- tive & Training. The establishment of the District for the year 1965-66 was 1,155.
169. The Marine Police are responsible for policing the waters of the Colony and the outlying islands. The Marine Police fleet consists of 14 Sector patrol launches, 4 smaller special duty launches, and miscellaneous small craft. In addition there are 10 Harbour launches used to patrol beats in the Harbour.
170. Outside the Harbour, the waters of the Colony are divided into five sectors, with a number of patrol launches attached to each sector. A sector operates as a unit roughly equivalent to a sub-division in a Land District.
171. There are ten Police stations and posts on the outlying islands, which are manned by Marine Police personnel, and operate in the normal way.
172. The two new patrol launches described in last year's report were taken into service in July. The new launches are of steel aluminium alloy superstructure, with an overall length of 111 feet; they are equipped with modern aids to navigation and their crew accommodation is of a very high standard.
173. The prevention of illegal immigration remains one of the main tasks of the Marine District. During the year a total of 88,391 craft was stopped and searched. 1,356 illegal immigrants were arrested, and 80 persons were convicted of assisting the entry of illegal immigrants. 100 craft and 2 motor vehicles were seized. A daily average of 17 sea-going launches was maintained on outer screen patrol during the year. This figure includes Preventive Service Launches which continued to combine with Police launches under the general control of the Marine District Operational Control Room.

EMERGENCY UNITS
174. Each of the police land districts has an Emergency Unit manned by Uniformed Branch personnel. These units operate on a 24-hour basis, manning patrol cars which are in radio contact with their District Control. Patrol cars are directed to give assistance at
