A detailed breakdown showing the types of complaints made is at Appendix 3. All complaints made by members of the public against Police officers are entered into an official register kept at divisional stations or the equivalent. Each complaint is formally investigated by a Gazetted Officer and the findings and recommendations are always checked by the Assistant Commissioner of the unit concerned. District Commanders and heads of branches regularly examine the complaints registers of the units under their command in order to check against persistent offenders and to ensure proper standards of discipline.
